Three days off work to catch up on my own projects apparently means that about a dozen things at work will blow up. ~60 emails sent and received later...

That was the theory behind why I was in Tuesday morning and Monday morning - so this wouldn’t happen and would be preempted. Ha. HA. HAHAHA

I went on vacation with my plane landing at 10:30pm last night. I ended up having to work until 2am because people can’t do their jobs... Nothing like having 4 frantic voicemails when you turn your phone on after landing.

If my co-workers were less congenial I would hate every last one of their semi-incompetent-asses with the burning passion of a 1000 supernova suns. At least they’re nice people. except that one guy. I hate that fucker.

Last time I took a vacation, I ended up working every night from my hotel room and answering phone calls while “relaxing” during the day.

I took this past Friday off because I was sick as a dog and I still ended up working from home in between doctor visits.

*sigh*

You get a star for referencing The Pink Panther movies (the original, and therefore good ones).

Friday I was removing 7" from the bottom of the Ranchero’s passenger door, because of reasons. So, while there was some zinc inhalation involved and it wasn’t *relaxing* per se, at least I wasn’t at my desk.

A lot of my response to the emails this morning was in the nature of forensics - reconstructing the email chains, finding out what the last thing done on something was, and going digging for details. I particularly liked the email that required me to go digging in the 74-page architect drawing for a project.

WAT?! Why? Why did you have to go digging through 74 pages of an architectural drawing? No. That is not ok.

I would’ve demanded that person supply me with lattes for the next week to make up for such asshattery.

We somewhat insanely decided to bid on a temp/humidity controlled room for a state government/county government out west. Normally we work with a customer back and forth on room layout, conditioner setup, and all the little details, but because it’s government it all has to be ADA compliant and a lot of other things, so our conditioner and the existing building info was placed in the hands of the architect, who was then told to go nuts. So... the architect, the customer, my company, and at least one builder, not to mention an engineering oversight group over the builder, are all attempting to be chefs on the same stew. The closest thing to a unifying source/ultimate authority so far has been that 74p set of drawings, which (either for good or ill) went into insane detail on how *we* would be doing things. Information on what ducting we would design and build, where we would locate our sensor, all kinds of little things that we usually work out on our own.

So, when somebody in the company starts trying to work from my drawing of how things are set up to make duct pieces/whatever, I’m responsible for going back to the well with the architect drawings because I can’t afford to be glib on how something is supposed to be. Because it’s already been spelled out... somewhere. Somewhat. Usually. Hidden deep in the 74 pages. By a person unfamiliar with our stuff.

This is why I rarely even leave for lunch.

I didn’t lunch today. I also didn’t breakfast. Come to think of it I didn’t supper last night either. I probably should find some way to make this evening an epic dine, but I’m probably booked for doing a rear control arms replace on the W124...
